The Tonnara di San Vito Lo Capo probably dates back to the 16th century, when it became an important tuna fishing and processing point, taking advantage of the passage of tuna in the area. The structure of the tonnara included large spaces for nets and fishing equipment, with a small watchtower and rooms for storing tuna. Although today the tonnara is in ruins, some structures and traces of its original architecture remain visible.
The village of San Vito Lo Capo is famous for its beach and gastronomic traditions, including cous cous, which is celebrated annually with the well-known Cous Cous Fest. Although the Tonnara building is not accessible, visitors can explore the surrounding area and enjoy the nearby beaches and coves.
